Schools deploy AI technology to protect against active shooters
Fox News correspondent Matt Finn has the latest on the impact of AI technology that some say could outpace humans on'Special Report.' WASHINGTON – While most people look to artificial intelligence, or AI, for quick answers to complex problems, a growing number of school districts are turning to the technology to keep their students and staff safe. A school district in Charles County, Maryland, roughly an hour from Washington D.C., is in the process of installing software and hardware which would allow their current security cameras to detect a potential active shooter. "This artificial intelligence has the ability to be able to identify a weapon, to assess what's going on and how that person is acting," said Jason Stoddard, Director of School safety and Security for Charles County Public Schools. The district, through a state grant, is in the process of installing AI gun detection technology at all of its campuses.

How Can Machine Learning Improve Risk Management?
Companies are increasingly discovering the beneficial link between machine learning and risk assessment. Machine learning can analyze variables faster than humans, helping businesses identify threats and address them. Successful applications exist in industries ranging from finance to health care. Risk management occurs when businesses forecast the things that could adversely affect their finances and assess how to minimize those threats. When companies excel at risk management, they're better able to plan for what could happen and determine how to respond if those situations occur. A growing body of evidence suggests machine learning and risk management is a smart combination.

Russian developer defends controversial 'Active Shooter' video game
Acid Software, the developer of the school shooting video game is defending the product and vowing to continue selling it online as parents of slain children and other mass shooting victims work to get the game wiped off the internet. The developer for a video game that stimulates a school shooting has found new ways to sell his game after an online gaming platform removed it, following huge backlash from the parents of children killed in school shootings. "Active Shooter" was removed from the platform Steam after anti-gun activists and the parents of students killed during school shootings criticized the game for allowing players to simulate school shootings by playing the role of the shooter. Ryan Petty, the father of Alaina Petty who was killed in the massacre at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Florida, slammed the game, calling it "despicable," and said it was "unacceptable" that Steam allowed games like this to be shared. Anton Makarevskiy, the game's developer, defended it through his entity, Acid Software, citing free expression rights.
Developer defends school-shooting video game as victimized seek its halt
HARTFORD, CONNECTICUT – The developer of a school-shooting video game is vowing to continue selling it online as parents of slain children and other mass shooting victims work to get the game wiped off the internet. The "Active Shooter" game was created by Anton Makarevskiy, a 21-year-old developer from Moscow, and is being marketed by his entity Acid Software. Acid said in a Twitter posting Tuesday that it will not be censored and cited free expression rights. The game is branded as a "SWAT simulator" that lets players choose between being an active shooter terrorizing a school or the SWAT team responding to the shooting. Players can choose a gun, grenade or knife, and civilian and police death totals are shown on the screen.

Steam has just confirmed a 'jaw-dropping' decision to sell VR porn video games
Gaming retailer Steam will continue to allow controversial content on its online store, the company has confirmed. The announcement comes less than a month after Steam was heavily criticised for allowing a school shooting simulator, which allowed players to take on the role of a gunman on a murderous rampage inside a school, on its online store. Steam eventually pulled the video game, dubbed'Active Shooter', after more than 271,900 people signed an online petition calling for its removal. The move appears to have prompted the online retailer, which is owned by Valve, to review its screening policy. Steam has now confirmed that it will not remove any content from its online store simply because some users deem it to be in bad taste.

Active Shooter video game that lets children play as a gunman in a school shooting is finally pulled
A blood-thirsty video game that encouraged players to take part in a school shooting has been pulled by the publisher after it triggered a furious backlash. 'Active Shooter' was marketed on its ability to allow players to take on the role of a gunman on a murderous rampage inside a school, as well as a SWAT team member trying to stop the bloodshed. As the lone gunman, players would be shown a tally of the number of civilians and police officers they managed to kill during their simulated shooting spree. Anti-gun violence charity Infer Trust described the game as'horrendous' and in'bad taste' given the recent mass shootings in the US. An online petition calling for the game to be scrapped gained more than 194,700 signatures.
